Kung Fu Hustle begins in the 1930’s setting in Shanghai. Bone (portrayed by Lam Chi-chung) and Sing (portrayed by Stephen Chow) aspire to join the notorious Axe Gang led by the cold-blooded man named Sum (portrayed by Danny Chan Kwok-kwan). One day, the two visit the Pig Sty Alley claiming that they are one of the members of Axe Gang and attempt to threaten all the residents out there before they are chased by the Landlady (portrayed by Yuen Qiu).

Sum, the leader of the notorious Axe Gang also threaten the Pig Sty Alley residents until the Kung Fu Masters   Coolie, Tailor, and Donut revealed their identity and conquered the Axe Gang Members. Sum hired killers to end the life of these three masters – but not the Landlord (portrayed by Yuen Wah) and the Landlady.

Sum also hired the Beast (portrayed by Bruce Leung Siu-lung) to kill the two remaining Kung Fu Masters in the casino. The Landlady tried to use the Lion’s Roar but failed to kill the Beast. Sing smashed the Beast during the fight in casino but the latter break his bones. The Landlord and the Landlady escaped along with Sing.

The Landlady and the Landlord tried to heal the broken bones of Sing and enhance his Kung Fu ability. The Beast and the rest of the Axe Gang attacked the Pig Sty Alley but they were all conquered by Sing with his new Kung Fu ability.

Sing did not end the Beast’s life but Sing shows the power of the Buddhist’s palm to end the latter’s terror.

Chow said that he is planning to do a “spiritual sequel.” Chow also said that he will likely feature a female lead.

Chow officially announced that he is planning to begin to work with Kung Fu Hustle 2 right after he finishes his recent project – the sequel of 2016’s Mermaid.
